28mm Australian Home Guard - '100 club' project from Eureka Miniatures

I interrupt the radio silence on this blog to bring you the following news.

Nic from Eureka Miniatures has announced the return of their '100 club' to sponsor a 28mm Australian Home Guard project.

See announcement from their Facebook page:

The 100 Club has been brought back to life. One of our customers recently found footage of the Australian Home Guard whilst researching an historical project.

As this fits in perfectly with our ‘Right Bloody Mess’ range we want to see how many customers would be interested in purchasing 28mm Australian Home Guard. The figures would be sculpted by Kosta Heristanidis.

Our proposed list is below, the number in brackets would be the number of variants. Price would be AUD$2.95 per figure (plus GST if purchased in Australia). The Vickers gun and two crew would be AUD$11 (plus GST if purchased in Australia).

• Home Guard/Ex-diggers with Rifles (6)
• Home Guard/Ex-digger Lewis Gun and Loader (2)
• Home Guard/Ex-digger Vickers with crew (1)
• Home Guard/Ex-diggers with beer bottle bombs (4)
• Home Guard/Ex-diggers in hessian sack “ghillie” suits with rifles (4)

Please contact us by e-mail at nicr@eurekamin.com.au with your pre-orders. Our target is to reach AUD$3000 in order to complete the project. If we achieve over AUD$3000 we might "even scrounge up a ‘dummy’ tank". This offer is open until 30 April 2020.
I'm obviously pretty excited about this range, particularly as it will be sculpted by Kosta who has form as shown in the work he's already done for Eureka. For anyone not familiar with his work in 28mm, check out his WW2 Soviets or Pacific War Australians.

All is not quiet on the Home Front however, as I have had a recent package arrive from Sloppy Jaloppy which inspired some modelling. I ordered a single pack of miners to get a feel for the sculpts and am particularly surprised by their character and quality. As they are intended as miners, the separate heads are mostly mining helmets with a head lantern which doesn't suit my purposes; but luckily the Eureka separate heads fit nicely.

First out of the the blocks are a Lewis Gun team for a civilian platoon. With all things being equal, these should be a good match for the upcoming Eureka Home Guard range. While my project is currently divided into the Socialist Trades Hall faction and the opposing Fascist Old Guard faction, the idea of the generic Home Guard force is that they could be used to bolster either side.

That's it for today, with my immediate plans to focus on getting my pre-order in to Eureka for the Home Guard, and waiting for the humidity to drop to the point that I can undercoat this LMG team.

I promise it won't be so long between posts next time!

  1. Very cool, how do they compare size wise with other ranges? Like Footsore, Empress, Eureka..etc?

    1. The Sloppy Jalopy figures are slightly more 'solid' than Eureka or Footsore, but to the point that it looks like a 6' bloke next to a 5'10" bloke. I don't feel they look out of place on table, even in the same unit.

I'll put together a size comparison and get a post up this weekend.
